Lake Somerset

Lake Somerset is an artificial lake created by the Somerset Dam on the Stanley River in Queensland. The dam was completed in 1959 and is the site of a small 4 kW hydroelectric power station, the dam also provides flood mitigation and water storage for the city of Brisbane. At full capacity the lake holds 910 000 megalitres, water from Lake Somerset is released to the downstream Lake Wivenhoe as required.

The lake is a popular fishing destination, with fish species caught including the Australian bass, golden perch, silver perch, Mary River cod, snub nosed gar, lungfish and saratoga.
