Lake Shore Boulevard (Toronto)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lake Shore Boulevard is an east-west route running along most of Toronto's waterfront.

Lake Shore Boulevard merges to become Woodbine Avenue in the east and ends at the western boundary of Toronto, west of Browns Line. (The street becomes Lakeshore Road as it continues into Mississauga and beyond). It does not pass through the eastern end of the city (The Beaches and Scarborough - in these areas Kingston Road is the primary thoroughfare closest to the lakefront.) Lakeshore is heavily used by commuters as an alternate to the Gardiner Expressway.

Lake Shore Boulevard (along with Kingston Road) was previously designated as Ontario provincial highway 2.

Travelling east on entering Toronto at the west, Lake Shore Boulevard passes through the neighourhoods of Long Branch, New Toronto and Mimico. It then crosses the Humber River and passes along the lakeshore, offering expansive views of Lake Ontario and, in places, the Toronto skyline. In the downtown section Lakeshore criss-crosses and runs parallel to the elevated Gardiner Expressway.
