Lake Orion Baptist School

Lake Orion Baptist School (LOBS) is a private independent Fundamental Baptist school, serving grades K-12. Founded in 2002, LOBS is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Lake Orion, Michigan, although students are accepted from any church loosely regarded as being of "like faith and practice".

The school's 2005-2006 enrollment is 131.

[edit] Administration, faculty and staff

Dennis J. Quattlebaum, former elementary school principal of Bethany Christian School in Troy, Michigan, is the school administrator. The school employs 14 faculty members and three secretaries.

[edit] Athletics

The school mascot is the Lion. Competing in the Michigan Association of Christian Schools Fundamental Baptist Athletic Conference, Blue Division, LOBS teams participate in boys' soccer, basketball, and baseball; and girls' basketball, volleyball, and soccer. The Lions girls' basketball team has twice reached the state finals, once in MACS division II and once in division I, settling for runner-up both times. The girls' volleyball team has also made two appearances in the state finals, earning earning second place honors both times there as well. There have been several standout players from LOBS. Brandon Watterworth (class of '04) was named Division MVP for MACS division II boys' basketball in his senior year, as well as being honored with a position on the MACS All-Conference First Team. Bobbi Frank, currently a junior, was named the Division MVP for girl's soccer during the 2005 season. On February 28, 2006, the Lions lost to Juniata Christian School in the MACS Division II state semifinals, ending a bid for a state championship.

[edit] Fine Arts

LOBS annually competes at the Fine Arts Festival held at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. In 2002 Justin Rettger won 1st place in the men's voice. Brad Schick followed a year later in 2003 and also won 1st in that competition. The school's chior took top honors in their category (choirs of 17 members or more) in 2005.
