Lake Engure - lake in the western part of Latvia, Talsi district. Third largest lake in country after Lubāns Lake and Rāzna Lake.
Ancient sea lagoon, divided from the sea by 1,5 - 2,5 km wide sand bar with dunes. Outflow - artificial Mersraga channel, dug in 1842. Eutrophic, mostly owergrown with reed. 16 species of fish.
Whole lake and vicinities have been included in Lake Engure Nature Park (1999), first nature protected area here established on 1957. Floating base of ornithologists. Included in Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance in 1995.
