Lajen (German) or Laion (Italian) is a comune (municipality) in South Tyrol in the Italian region Trentino-South Tyrol, located about 70 km northeast of Trento and about 20 km northeast of Bolzano. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,401 and an area of 37.3 km2.[1]
The municipality of Lajen contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Albions, Fraina (Freins), Novale (Ried), S. Pietro (St. Peter), Tanurza (Tanirz), and Ceves (Tschöfas).
Lajen borders the following municipalities: Barbian, Kastelruth, Klausen, Villnöß, Urtijëi, Waidbruck, and Villanders.
