Wincing the Night Away is the third album by indie rock group The Shins, expected to be released on Sub Pop Records in January 2007.
In an interview with Pitchfork Media in December 2005, Shins frontman James Mercer listed Sleeping Lessons as another possible title for the album[1]; however, in a August 2006 interview with Billboard Magazine, Mercer confirmed the name as Wincing the Night Away.[2] In the interview, he stated that the band was "streching out" on the new album, and that the extended recording period had given them more time to develop their ideas. The album will feature ten songs, in addition to a short intro track. Song titles include "The Phantom Limb," "Red Rabbits," "Sea Legs," "Spelling Lessons," "Spilled Needles," and "A Comet Appears."
Two songs performed at concerts, tentatively titled "Circus Walk" and "Won One Too Many Fights", are also expected appear on the album.
