The Lahore School of Economics comprises of two campuses:

The City Campus, is located in a Gulberg close to the central Liberty Market area.

The Main Campus is located near the new Lahore International Airport and is spread over of 28 acres.

General Overview:

The Lahore School of Economics provides students with a world-class education in an unparalleled environment. At the Lahore School, students are encouraged to develop all of the skills - intellectual, physical, social - that make the whole person.

There's a lot to be gained in the Lahore School over a few years. Much of that is learnt in classrooms. But students also learn many things about successful living in every thing we do here, many of which take place outside the classrooms.

Extra curricular activities, in addition to physical fitness and fun, train students to cope with academic demands like learning how to study effectively and get work done on time, finding out how to use the library resources, learning how to utilize the services of teachers and teaching assistants, finding various help and tutoring services on campus and learning how to study and work in teams and groups.

While all of this is going on, we are starting this newsletter as a new activity for you to indulge in. The focus of this publication will be you — the students, life on the campus, extra curricular activities at the Lahore School and other random thoughts you might want to vent out. Send in your contributions along with your photographs (email or leave a hard copy in editor’s cottage) and make this publication what you want it to be. We are open to persuasion so feel free to suggest changes.

For fresh students, joining the Lahore School of Economics signals the moment of their initiation as students in an awesome environment. Students are here at the Lahore School not only because of their gifts, but rather (and, perhaps, paradoxically), they are gifted because they are here. By being here, in this place, greatness is thrust upon them. Maybe this sounds heretical. Does distinction ultimately reside in places rather than people?

The Lahore School is a university that is proud of its students, residential hostels and their courtyards, libraries, computer laboratories and the faculty. You have entered a creative milieu on a grand scale, and your success — though certainly in part attributable to your hard work and intelligence — will also be a consequence of the nature of this place itself, including your classmates and peers. In the time you spend here, perhaps you will discover a bustling laboratory, an alcove in the library, at machine in the gym, or some other spot on campus that inspires you to wise thoughts and creative syntheses.

Inspiring places bring together inspired people who, together or individually, do remarkable things. I suggest, if I may, that one of your tasks as you set into the amazing setting that is this university is to recognize the importance of place in your achievements so far and to expend some effort finding those local environments that will allow you to discover your personal strengths and talents but also stimulate you to explore new ones. Most likely, your creative milieu will include what sociologists usually call a "third place." Neither the room where you live nor the place where you typically do your work, the third place is where you will find that combination of camaraderie and intellectual safety in which you can try out a really crazy idea.

Lahore School knows that you will embrace the good of this place. Starting right now, this place is yours. Welcome!

Campus Life

Nestled in green fields, on the edge of Defence Housing Society (Phase IV) on Burki Road, the Lahore School's Main Campus occupies a site of 25 acres. The environment is open, spacious and naturally landscaped, with native vegetation all around being a feature. Decorative trees and shrubs have been planted in and around the Campus. Students happily share this serene and natural environment while they study.

The City Campus is situated in Gulberg — heart of the city. It also houses excellent teaching, computing and Library facilities. Both the locations are connected through a fleet of air-conditioned coasters plying to and from.

Undergraduate studies are offered both at the City and the Main Campus. Graduate studies are based at the Main Campus.

The Lahore School is proud of its Main Campus environment; students, staff and visitors alike have indicated that the quality of the environment is most conducive to work and study.

Student’s societies and clubs

You can't spend all your time studying. Education is about working hard, enjoying hard, relaxing and recharging. Student societies and clubs help to meet the recreational and vocational needs of students, and also bring with them a rich blend of extracurricular interests, fun, leadership and event management training. To add yet another dimension in serious academic programs, students of the Lahore School have a variety of choices for involvement, including the following:

Music/Movie Society Dramatics Society Debating Society Excursion Society Art Society Computers Club Writers' club Photographic Society

Sports Complex

The Lahore School sports complex is the headquarters for workouts, muscle building, sports and more! The facility features a fully equipped multipurpose gymnasium, indoor basketball and badminton courts, table tennis (one tennis table along with snooker table is also in the Café), and outdoor football and cricket playing fields.

Plenty goes on in the gym in a friendly atmosphere and excellent facilities open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. for everyone. So when you're not working, go to the gym to build your physical endurance right on the doorstep.

Residential hostels

Students work hard, and if they don't want to fall asleep in their classes, they probably need a comfortable residence. But the Lahore School’s residential quarters are a lot more than just a place to sleep.

The Lahore School offers air-conditioned and fully furnished accommodation for students (both boys and girls), next to the academic blocks. Housing options range from singles to shared suites. Each block has living rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, and lots of closet and storage space. Internet hook up points are available in the rooms. There is a mosque adjacent to the living blocks. The quality of life they offer makes them a popular place to live.

Eating on campus

Café and tuck shop (Five at the Main Campus and two at City Campus) offer snacks, soft drinks and hot food from breakfast to late afternoon, and evening meals for the residents. Choose one of the many options (different main dish everyday) to sample what is on offer. Air-conditioned dining hall and accompanying lounge (a new flatron and a satellite receiver has been added only recently) is also used as a meeting place for students’ societies and for holding of their functions. Here, students also work and interact with peers, faculty and support staff. Or they can simply sit there, watching television and all the friendly faces stream by.
