Hello, LaGrange, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay.
Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!
If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up very shortly to answer your questions. Don't be afraid to ask!

[edit] Nikola Tesla

I noticed your edits on that page. Another anonymous user and I are noticing the pseudo-vandalism that is going on on that page, but it has been blocked from unregistered editing. See the discussion page for details on the events that are transpiriing there by a seeming string of users who apparently know eachother and have done stuff like this before on other page: Hillman, Joke, and WMC. 65.10.57.230 21:24, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 17:21, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

One more tip. Per the style manual, one should have
 ==See also==
rather than
 ==See Also==
Thanks for your work, your name popped up a few places on my watchlist. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 17:23, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cervantes on List of Iberian Jews

Your contribution to list of Jewish inventors has caught my attention. The same user is putting forth a lot of far-flung claims on Judaism and who and who did not descend from a Jewish family. Read TALK:List of Iberian Jews to get an idea of the problem going on there. The same thing is going on in Crypto-Jews. You're probably not an admin but you may be friends with one. Please see if theres any way to prevent this violation of wikipedia: No original research from continuing. Thanks. 70.146.75.230 10:02, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Some contributions help needed

Hey Tom. Do you have an email or something by which to contact you? I don't want to waste your talk page space with small talk. Thanks, if you rather I give you mine. Tell me. LaGrange 02:09, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Lagrange, no waste of space and it is better to post here about the project for transparancy(sp?) sake. I actually like this format. If something is sensitive for my/our eyes only we can then email. OK? Thanks! --Tom 22:01, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Inventors

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. I noticed your comments on some inventors pages, and certainly we need to define precisely who counts as an inventer and who doesn't. For example, does someone who leads a team of scientists to invent something qualify as an inventor; does someone who invents a mathematical principle count as an inventor? Etc. etc. LaGrange 13:05, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi LaGrange, Your question actually points out a major problem Wiki seems to be having. We/you/I/Them should NOT be doing any figuring out of ANYTHING. If we/you/I can SOURCE that the person is CALLED an inventor, then include them in the list and referrence that source. If we/you/I can't find a source that calls/lists the person as an inventor, leave them out. This whole idea of "defining" who should be on ANY of these Wiki lists is mute, IMHO. As per Wiki policy, just stick to all ready established research/facts. Hope this helps and doesn't make things worse :) Cheers! --Tom 13:15, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

True. But then that begs the question, what if a source says "so and so" INVENTED "this" but never calls the person an inventor. Technically we wouldn't be allowed to call them an inventor either. LaGrange 13:22, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Policy/guidlines are just that. If 10 REAL GOOD sources say "Joe Blow invented bubble gum", go for it. List Joe Blow and link the sources. If one bad source says "Joe Blow fooled around with this sticky pink stuff and blew bubbles" leave it off. I wish things were black and white but that aren't. MY feeling is, if in ANY doubt, leave it off. Also, use talk pages to gain concensus where possible. I am a serious rookie to this project and I am just one VERY VERY VERY small voice :). Good faith editing goes along way it seems so carry on and enjoy. Thanks!--Tom 13:28, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Frankist Jews

Hi, I see that you nominated List of Frankist Jews to be speedy deleted as it was a "recreation of a deleted list" (WP:CSD:G4). I checked the deletion log and couldn't find the instance of it being deleted before. Could you point me to the AfD discussion that resulted in a delete deciion for this article? Thanks, Gwernol 09:16, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reference to the AfD. The article is now deleted as a repost. I'll definitely keep an eye on this situation. Thanks, Gwernol 12:58, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adam Mickiewicz

Thanks for the headsa-up. Looks like you've done the right thing with your most recent revert. Best, Gwernol 02:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Georg Cantor

Re. your message on User talk:Bellbird. Well, was he described as Jewish more often than not? This is entirely different as to whether he himself said he was Jewish or not. Please try to differentiate between the two aspects and treat them accordingly. Otherwise it is muddled thinking. Please also see my other text on Bellbird's talk page. Tyrenius 19:32, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm responding because wiki is an open forum. Private messages should be sent by email. Your statement, "Unless somebody can unequivocally be proven as Jewish via descent, they are not Jewish unless they say they are" is POV. WP non-negotiable policy per WP:VERIFY is to use secondary sources. Please follow it. Tyrenius 00:59, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

We are talking at cross-purposes. I am making a general observation and you are making a particular application of that. I don't see any immediate disagreement. I think I misread your intention, and apologise if so, as there is a line of argument current that says "unless someone says they're Jewish, they're not (regardless of their descent)", which I see is not what you are saying. See this discussion.

By the way, you shouldn't alter your post after you've left it. Add on below instead.

No problem, but I'd already left a reply. Happy editing! Tyrenius 01:43, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
