Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge

Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge is the largest protected area of natural habitat left in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The 65,096 acre refuge is located in Cameron County, Texas near Brownsville, Texas. It is a nesting ground for the endangered Least Tern and nine other endangered or threatened species, including rare wild cats, the ocelot and jaguarundi. Programs at the refuge include vegetation and wetland restoration.
