Lafayette (Louisiana) metropolitan area

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lafayette metropolitan area, located in the Cajun Heartland region of Acadiana, is composed of Lafayette and St. Martin parishes. However, the more realistic extent of Lafayette's metropolitan area is about nine parishes large. Many consider St. Landry Parish, Vermillion Parish, Acadia Parish, and Iberia Parish part of greater Lafayette, as these are also contained within the Cajun Heartland. The area of Lafayette is politically conservative, however, it does not always vote Republican in elections. The economy in the Lafayette area is mostly made up of tourism, oil-related business, car sales, and the restaurant industry.
