The Ladies of the Lake is a group of more than 35 women who, in order to stimulate change in the Lake Simcoe watershed area, volunteered to be photographed nude for a "cheeky but not cheesy" calendar.

[edit] Origin

The idea was originated by founders Jane Meredith and Annabel Slaight after watching the film "Calendar Girls". In the fall of 2004, they began working with other women in the south Lake Simcoe region concerned about the deteriorating health of the Lake due to rising phosphorus levels caused by urbanization. These women then found photographer Jim Panou to help them achieve the objective of raising awareness of the issue, while at the same time raising money for conservation initiatives.

[edit] Achievements

So far, the calendar has raised over $244,000 for the conservation by selling over 13,000 copies. This money goes entirely to the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, a non-profit organization formed "to be an effective advocate for the restoration and protection of the environmental health and quality of Lake Simcoe".
