From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lac qui Parle River is a tributary of the Minnesota River in southwestern Minnesota and eastern South Dakota, United States. Its watershed drains 1,156 square miles (2,294 square kilometers) along its 66 mile (106 kilometer) course through Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, and Yellow Medicine counties. It is one of four rivers that drains the Coteau des Prairies.

The climate of the watershed is continental, with cold dry winters and warm wet summers. Average annual precipitation is 24 to 26 inches (61 to 66 cm). Land use in the watershed is primarily agricultural.

The river rises in Lake Hendricks in Lincoln County on the South Dakota-Minnesota border. The river's name is a French translation of the Dakota name for Lake Hendricks, which means "The Lake Which Talks."
