La corne de rhinocéros, written and drawn by Franquin, is the sixth album of the Spirou et Fantasio series, consisting of the title story, as well as a directly linked prequel, Spirou et la turbotraction. After sequential appearances in Le Journal de Spirou, they were both released as one complete hardcover album in 1955.

[edit] Story

In Horn of the Rhinoceros, Fantasio's journalistic career with Le Moustique is in a slump. Desperate to find a scoop, he decides to manufacture one and persuades Spirou to help. Trouble at the Turbot factory (from Spirou et les héritiers) who have designed a car so spectacular that the industry competition need to destroy it, changes all the plans, as does getting acquainted with Fantasio's journalistic nemesis Seccotine. A search for fleeing racecar driver Martin and a microfilm takes them to Africa, and close contact with rhinoceri.

[edit] Discourse

The introduction of Seccotine brings a new dimension to the Spirou universe, and makes it a more interesting one. Also the first of many classy design vehicles Franquin was to create, appears in the Turbotraction:Turbot-Rhino I.
