La Piedad, Michoacán

La Piedad, in the Mexican state of Michoacán, is a town near the borders of Jalisco and Guanajuato states. Original colonial name was San Sebastian. Current full name is La Piedad de Cabadas. It is bordered by the town of Santa Ana Pacueco, Guanajuato. Both towns stradle the the Lerma river. La Piedad is a hub for agrigultural products and was once known as the center of Mexican pork industry, it still plays an inportant part in that industry. La Piedad has recently moved its economy towards textiles. Mayor manufacturers like Marval have production facilities in La Piedad. Surrounding towns are Santa Ana, Yurecuaro, Degollado, Numaran, and Ecuandureo. La Piedad is also the headquarters for veterinary farmaceuticals company LaPisa and to industrial turbine manufacturer Turbomaquinas. It is home to the Zambrano Family.
