La Neuveville is a Swiss town and capital of the district of La Neuveville. It is in the French-speaking part of the Canton of Bern, on the bank of Lake Biel.
It is located in an area called Bernese Jura (Jura Bernois in French), which sits between the Canton of Jura and the German-speaking part of the Canton of Bern. The people of La Neuveville speak French, although the canton of Bern is mostly German-speaking.
Although La Neuveville has only about 3,400 inhabitants, the medieval small town has the legal standing of a city according to the old city statutes (Stadtrecht).
La Neuveville lies on the shores of Lake Biel, at the foot of the Chasseral (Jura).
Points of interest of the historical city are the Schlossberg, the city walls, the military defense towers, and the white church.
