L'amico Fritz is an opera in three acts by Pietro Mascagni, 1891, from a libretto by P. Suardon (Nicola Daspuro) (with additions by Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti) , based on the French novel L'ami Fritz by Emile Erckmann and Pierre-Alexandre Chatrian.
It received its first performance in Rome at the Teatro Costanzi, on 31 October 1891.
The "Cherry duet" in Act II is the best known piece in the opera. Even the Intermezzo is a grand concert piece.
