L2Walker, or Lineage II Walker, is a third party program that allows the user to automate functions in the MMORPG Lineage 2 made by NCsoft. Since it is an "unofficial" addon, it is against NCsoft's EULA (End User License Agreement) link and if caught or reported using L2Walker your account will likely be banned.

[edit] History

L2Walker was originally created by programmers for the purpose of Farming. By automating the task to a computer program, it reduced the amount of personal time needed by "Farmers" while at the same time allowing multiple accounts to perform the same task. Most users of L2Walker choose to create a Dwarven Scavenger (See Lineage II for more information) because of the characters ability to "Spoil" (in essence obtain more in game items) which are then either sold in game for Adena (Lineage II's currency) or sold on eBay or other MMORPG related gaming sites (such as IGE) for "Real World Money" known as RMT. This market called the "Secondary Market" by many Lineage II gamers is the driving force behind most L2Walker Users.

[edit] Uses

L2Walker's main purpose is to automate tasks (most commonly to aid in RMT), but also is very customizable via its extensive scripting abilities. Many common tasks considered time consuming by some, can be easily automated by the use of L2Walker. Some of these tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Crafting: Soul/Spirit Shots or other goods
  • Buff Bot: Automating "buffs" to enhance other characters or to heal them
  • Farming: Repeat killing of certain "mobs" of monsters to obtain in game items
  • Leveling: Similar to farming, but instead the goal is to increase "experience" (EXP) to "level" their character

Since L2Walker can automate almost any in game task many users leave L2Walker to work while they are AFK (Away From Keyboard). However this increases the risk of being caught and most likely banned. This is due to the fact that L2Walker is easily spotted by "Real" players because of the movement of the "bot". For example L2Walker clients tend to run into in world objects such as walls or rocks becoming stuck, where as a real player would tend to avoid such situations. Also when a "party" of bots is created (I.E. 4 bots working together) the characters will tend to move and behave in a collective manner.

Lineage II offers an "in-game" petition system that allows players to "report" bots or other illegal activity on the server. A report is investigated by a Gamemaster or GM in the order it was received. However if the botting is monitored by a real person, L2Walkers built-in alarm system for GM petition's will notify the user if a GM attempts to make contact with the character in the party. GM's often ask random questions in both English and Chinese to see if the character has a real player controlling it.

[edit] Paying

L2Walker is shareware, therefore, it has to be paid for to acquire all the functions of it. There are 3 versions of L2Walker: OOG (Out of Game), IG (In Game) and Free. The OOG and IG versions of L2Walker have to be paid for to be used. Currently, to use L2Walker with all its functions, you need to purchase Game Time cards, which contain codes that have to be inputted on the program for it to work completely. If not, both the OOG and IG version won't work at all. Nevertheless, online communities have developed tools to bypass the paying method and use the OOG and IG versions without inputting the Game Time codes.

[edit] Legality

Since L2Walker is an "unofficial" add-on, the usage of this program is a bannable offense according to NCSoft's EULA. Many users, though, have complained of NCSoft's apparent lack of interest in banning the users of L2Walker. Many of the complaints posted on the official Lineage II message board are quickly deleted by forum moderators, thus, making it difficult to provide a source to prove this claim.
