Kyulek
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kyulek are an alien race that appear in the O.R.B: Off-World Resource Base video game. They are encountered throughout the Allysian campaign as a hostile neutral race.

[edit] Origin
Not much is known about the Kyulek. They are supposedly an ancient race that are subservient to the Elathen, as stated by both the Torumin and the Seekers of Ftorrek.
The Kyulek are extremely hostile to all but the Elathen, as the Allysians soon discovered when they first encountered them. However, the Kyulek have also made a (forced) alliance with the leading Night Sky Clan of the Malus.
[edit] Ship Characteristics
All Kyulek vessels are distinguished by their greyish-brown, pod-shaped hulls, which are adorned with glowing green markings. Unlike the ships of the Allysians or Malus, their ships do not have drive trails. The large glowing weblike structure at the rear of most of their vessels appear to be their engine drives. Larger Kyulek capital ships have a large glowing pit-like structure at their front. Their ships also cause unusual energy distortions in the areas that they congregate at. Kyulek ships are supposedly made from carbon based materials, which they are often seen extracting from asteroids, and are in turn partially organic.
Kyulek appear to be highly adept with hyperspace portal technology.
Judging by the design of their ships, the Kyulek are probably not human and are likely insectoid in nature and/or work under a hive mind, as one of their ships, the Hive, suggests.
[edit] Ship Types
Pod - The Pod is the standard fighter craft used by the Kyulek. They are very fast, but lightly shielded and armored, and attack at close range. The Pod attacks with a close range expanding pulse weapon that deals fairly high area of effect damage. Because of this, a flight of three Pods can quickly wipe out a larger squadron if used properly. These fighters appear to be used primarily for scouting and light skirmishes.
Bipod - The Bipod fills the medium fighter role of the Kyulek fleet. Not named for its appearance, the Bipod is roughly twice the size, has twice the shielding and armor, and deals out two times as much damage than the Pod.
Tripod - Another ascension from the Pod. While not physically a Tripod, it has three times the capabilities of the original Pod. Its pulse weapon is powerful enough to wipe out a moderately sized squadron of fighters should it get close enough.
-Note: Both the Tripod and the Bipod are amalgams of four separate Pods. The Bipod consists of one central Pod, with two additional outrigging Pods, and one more pod above the central Pod. Tripods are similar, but all of their Pods are more elongated in appearance and has a lower Pod instead of an upper Pod.
Ktu-Pod - The prime choice of the Kyulek for capital-class slugfests, the Ktu-Pod is a deadly destroyer-class vessel. The Ktu-Pod is unusually small and fast for a destroyer, but it doesn't make it any less deadly. Well shielded and armored, the Ktu-Pod is armed with a pair of powerful energy beam weapons, which are highly efficient at destroying fighters and capital ships alike.
Hive - The largest of the Kyulek ships and perhaps the largest vessel in O.R.B itself (with the exception of the Elathen Jul-Gatherer height wise). The Hive appears to be the Flagship of the Kyulek fleet. As large as it is however, it is only armed with a single, rather powerful beam weapon. One of these ships was destroyed by the Seekers of Ftorrek, but it is unknown how many there actually are.
Arc - Introduced in the 1.04 patch, the Arc is supposedly a carrier class capital ship. The Arc has similar capabilities to the Ktu-Pod and is likely more powerful.
[edit] Stations
Portal Gate - A massive starfish-shaped structure used by the Kyulek to move fleets over vast distances VIA a hyperspace portal. One of these structures was destroyed by the Allysians while it was under construction.
Asteroid Pods - These smaller structures are commonly found attached to asteroids that have been mined by the Kyulek. They are capable of gating in reinforcements.
Starbase - The Kyulek were originally intended to have starbases similar in function to those of the Allysians and Malus. The concept was dropped, but the model for the Starbase can be found in the O.R.B. model file, although it is untextured. The Starbase's presence suggests that the Kyulek might have been a 3rd playable race.
[edit] Tactics
The Kyulek tend to attack with large masses of fighters in a similar manner to the Kadeshi from Homeworld.
