KYUU

KYUU was a hit radio station in San Francisco, USA, broadcasting on 99.7 FM. Its tagline was simply "The Hit Music Station".

KYUU signed on with a MOR format in 1978 and than changed to Adult top 40 in 1981. It remained with that format, but in 1986 moved closer to AC than Top 40. Then, in 1988, NBC was about to sell all their owned-and-operated radio stations, but for the short time, it left NBC still owning KYUU. The station remained adult top 40, but moved closer to top 40.

Emmis bought the radio station, and changed the call letters to KXXX and its format to Top 40. It was sold again, and the call letters were changed KFRC and its format was changed to oldies. CBS/Infinity bought the radio station but kept the oldies. Until recently, they dropped the 50's & 60's music, and mostly currently play 70 & 80's music in the format known as Classic Hits.
