The station signed on the air in the mid 1980s as KWRP and had been through many formats before settling in on its current one in 2004, and in the process target Rhythmic rival KGGI, for dominance in the Riverside-San Bernardino market. It is also in competition with sister station KDAY, an Urban formatted station.
