Due to the popularity of Christian rock music programs, and the absence of any other station playing it, led to formation of a separate radio station dedicated toward this format.

KVRK broadcasts at 14,000 watts from a tower in Sanger, Texas.

[edit] History

Eldred and Raye Nell Thomas, returning from a two-year stay in Florida, were seeking God's will for their lives and were looking for some type of ministry in which to participate. The need was open to establish a Christian broadcast station. Through other business interests, Mr. Thomas learned of KVTT-FM, an existing station that operated as an extension of Elkins Institute, a broadcasting training facility. Bill Elkins, the founder and president of the foundation that owned KVTT-FM, was retiring and wanted to find someone to continue with the station he had operated since 1950. The Lord brought these two men together and Mr. Elkins presented to Eldred Thomas the possibility of operating KVTT-FM. In March of 1976, Mr. Thomas became the president of Research Educational Foundation, Inc. and General Manager of KVTT-FM.

KVTT-FM wanted to do more to reach young people and began to play music in the evenings targeted to youth on Power Mix and also on the weekends with Lighthouse 21 and Spin 180 beginning in 1995. KVTT-FM had already decided to apply to the FCC to start a full-time rock station near the end of 1994.

It took over 4 years for the application to be processed and granted by the FCC. Granted a license to broadcast at 14,000 watts as KTPW and transmit from a tower north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on Jan. 18, 1999; but format didn't begin until July 27, 1999. In 2004 REF Inc. signed over the board of directors of KVTT-FM and now is responsible only for Power FM. KVRK call letters were established June 14, 2004.

Both Eldred and Raye Nell Thomas have gone on to be with the Lord. The ministry they established carries on now with 89.7 Power FM, a full time Christian rock station in north Texas.
