KVMY (Channel 21 analog, 22 digital) is an affiliate of the My Network TV serving the Las Vegas, Nevada market. It is owned and operated by the Sinclair Broadcast Group. Its transmitter is located in Henderson, Nevada.
[edit] History
The station began its existence in the summer of 1984 as KRLR, a fully independent station broadcasting on UHF channel 21 and Prime Cable channel 2. It aired strictly music videos (billing itself as Vusic 21) for the first year or so. By 1987, KRLR became a regular independent station.
After the formation of the UPN television network, the station changed its call sign to KUPN in 1995 and affiliated with the UPN network. In 1997, the Sinclair Broadcast Group acquired KUPN and switched the station's affiliation to the WB Network on March 1, 1998. The call letters were changed to KVWB on May 27, 1998. After the acquisition of Prime Cable by Cox Communications, in 1999, the station moved on the cable dial to channel 12, replaced at channel 2 first temporarily by the TV Guide Channel, then by the City of Las Vegas' non-broadcast station KCLV.
In 2003, the station launched a local newscast, combined with Sinclair Broadcast Group's own "News Central" national broadcast, at 10:00 p.m.. The local news department was shared with co-owned independent station KFBT "Gold 33", which aired its News Central newscast at 7:00 p.m.. The news department was shut down at the beginning of March 2006. KVWB later entered into an agreement to air a 10:00 p.m. newscast produced by KVBC, the local NBC affiliate. The newscast debuted on Thursday, April 6, 2006, titled "NEWS 3 at 10 on The WB Las Vegas" and later renamed to "NEWS 3 at 10 on My LV TV".
Also in 2006, it was announced that the station would become an affiliate of My Network TV when that network launched in September. The station changed its call sign to KVMY in June [1] to reflect its new affiliation. Its sister station, KFBT (which has since changed its call letters to KVCW), became a CW affiliate at the same time.
