[edit] History
- The station went on the air as KLRJ-TV, Channel 2, on January 23, 1955, licensed to Henderson, with calls standing for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which owned the station. It was later known as KORK-TV. By the 1970s the station switched to Channel 3, and by 1980, its call letters were changed to KVBC.
- Las Vegas Valley Broadcasting Company took over KORK-TV in 1979 after the owners of KORK (and publishers of the Review-Journal), Donrey Media Group (now Stephens Media Group), were found to be clipping NBC programs with local advertising. A concerned viewer contacted the Federal Communications Comission, FCC, and complained that coverage of The World Series was interrupted by KORK's local advertising.
- When the station's call sign was changed to KVBC in 1980 (with its slogan "It's Nice To Come Home to TV-3"), its newscasts were titled "Eyewitness News". That name was changed in 1982, and was picked up shortly thereafter by KLAS-TV, which was then billing its newscasts as "NewsCenter 8".
- The station for a few years used a portion of Styx's 1978 hit "Come Sail Away" and Steve Winwood's While You See A Chance before going to a commercial break.
- KVBC was the first station to report the deadly Las Vegas Hilton fire in February, 1981, interrupting regular-scheduled program to provide live coverage.
- On 2006-04-06, KVBC began to transmit a local 10 o'clock newscast on KVMY (then-KVWB), as well as their "News 3 Nightside" at 11 o'clock. The 10PM Newscast will move from KVMY to KVCW which is the CW network affiliation station.
- KVBC uses Frank Gari's NBC News Now, Speed of Life & New Millenium Music packages. KVBC previously used The Great News Package & Turn to News, both by Frank Gari as well. In some teases KVBC uses Frank Gari's Premier Music Package.
- The original name of the company that now runs KVBC was "Las Vegas Valley Broadcasting Company." It is now known as "Valley Broadcasting Company."
