There is a map at the Kurdish Wikipedia that is claiming much more as the Kurdish areas [1]. It goes south as far as Khuzestan! Roozbeh 23:03, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
[edit] West Azerbaycan
I agree parts of Turkey, Iraq and Iran are part of Kurdistan but the province West-Azerbaycan is like the name says, its Azeri. West-Azerbaycan is populated by both groups, Azeris & Kurds but West-Azerbaycan is part of South-Azerbaycan not Kurdistan.
[edit] Licensing
I don't understand why this image got tagged as not having a known license status. It's obviously from the CIA, you can recognize their style at once; also the upload history shows that it's from Perry-Castañeda, namely an image linked to from a page that states explicitly that "The following maps were produced by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, unless otherwise indicated." For this map, it is not otherwise indicated. QuartierLatin1968 17:45, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia the source of knowkedge base which I frequently apply for. I am very rocked with the map. Please study more carefully before publishing all details. I think this map sent from unofficial sources. I am suffered an affront with this nonsense ignorance. Please check the map of Turkish republic. These areas full reserved oil; that's why this map sent from CIA. Somebody (The dark face of the USA) is trying to set a puppet state of the USA. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.240.29.250 (talk • contribs).
- Well, that's as may be. The CIA actually produces quite a lot of maps showing ethnic groups – I've seen maps for the ethnic groups of Iran, for example, and the Caucasus, although this one is part of a more recent generation of CIA maps that are of higher quality and detail. Anyhow, I'm sorry if the map's content offends you, but that doesn't mean its license status isn't in order. QuartierLatin1968 22:00, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

The source for the map is
http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Congress/1881/kurdistan96
inactive since 2001.
Unless the Congress of the United States started to broadcast on geocities, I think it should be deleted for lack of a scholarly basis -or at least a basis some seriousness-. Another unless would include the verifiability principle now being also extended to contents of personal sites, but then, anything becomes verifiable.
