The Kumari is a fictional starship in the science fiction television series Star Trek: Enterprise, the Kumari class starship is of Andorian origin and is part of the Andorian Imperial Guard. The ship's captain was Commander Shran.
The Kumari was the first starship of her class, and proved itself in battle many times (particularly against species such as the Suliban and Xindi).[1] The ship took its name from an ancient Andorian sea-going vessel, the first ice cutter to successfully circumnavigate the entire surface of Andor.[2]
The Kumari, like most Andorian ships, had a much faster maximum speed than Starfleet vessels, thus enabling Shran to easily locate the Enterprise (NX-01) in the Delphic Expanse.[3] Shran had told Archer that the Kumari was there to assist Starfleet, but Shran's military had ordered him to steal the Xindi prototype super weapon and secure it for the Andorians. Shran complied, but felt terrible guilt at being ordered to double-cross a trusted friend and ally.[3] Later, Shran and his ship returned to help Archer fight off renegade Xindi starships in orbit of Earth.[4]
Shran felt a particular affinity for his ship - he commanded it for many years, and most of the Kumari's crew served with him on other assignments prior to this. The Kumari (along with most of its crew) was destroyed in late 2154 by a Romulan prototype vessel. Shran was one of the few survivors of this disaster.[1][2]
[edit] Technical specifications
The Kumari is armed with particle weaponry as it's main offensive weapon and utilizes Deflector shields to deflect enemy fire away from the hull.[3][5] The Kumari is significantly more advanced then the Earth vessel Enterprise sporting more advanced weaponry and tractor beam technology as well as superior sensor systems.[3]
