KUFX (98.5 FM) is a classic rock-formatted radio station in San Jose, California. It is owned by Clear Channel Communications. The station is referred to on-air as "K-FOX".
[edit] History
KUFX was originally located at 104.9 FM, and moved to 98.5 in 1998. Prior to this, the 98.5 frequency was the longtime home to KOME. KOME had an alternative rock format.
In 1959, Ed Meece, one of the founders of Pacifica Radio, formed a company called The Audio House and signed on a new radio station at 98.5 FM in San Jose, California. The station was christened KRPM. The station played classical music and also featured public affairs programming.
Meece sold the station in 1970 to a fledgeling company that eventually became Infinity Broadcasting, and the call letters were changed to KOME. The format was changed to free-form rock, and it became a dominant and legendary station throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

The station is also the flagship for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. In a 2006 column, a writer for the San Jose Mercury News noted that he could only listen to a broadcast of a Stanley Cup playoff game on KUFX since his cable company did not carry OLN, which had exclusive television rights to the game. That situation, he noted, provided an ironic twist to him living in the technology-rich Silicon Valley.
The morning show is hosted by Greg Kihn, a musician who had a few popular Top 40 hit songs in the 1980s.
