Kubus, a tribe inhabiting the central parts of Sumatra, Indonesia. They are nomadic peoples living entirely in the forests in shelters of branches and leaves built on platforms. They are a nomadic people, constructing temporary wooden shelters in forested areas until game and resources in these areas dwindle. They have developed ingenious ways to make use of the trees. They beat the stripped bark of a poisionous tree into the waters to catch fish. The fish are stunned by the poisionous bark and surface for easy catching. They have developed unique wooden traps for each type of game animal in their vicinity. They are currently facing the deforestation of their forest which has caused problems due to their people living off the land. Modern civilization is encroaching on their traditional ways of life. They have adopted cigarettes, cigarette lighters and machetes from the nearby city, but have decided to keep their traditional way of life. [1]
