Kuban State University of Technology is one of the first higher educational institutions established in the southern region of Russia. It was founded on 16 June 1918 as the North-Caucasian Polytechnic Institute. Professor B.L.Rosing, - a worldwide known physicist, the inventor of electronic television, - was the founder of the University.
Though it was a very difficult and unstable period in the history of Russia, the professors and lecturers made every effort to support the scientific school, changed the field of training specialists according to the needs of processing industries specific for the Kuban region, developed two major branches of food science: fats-and-oil and wine-making technology. Thus by 40th the school earned high authority all over the country as the Krasnodar Institute of Food Technology.
In 1963 the Krasnodar Institute of Food Technology was reformed to the Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute. The number of faculties increased, the enrolment of students exceeded 15 thousand. On 11 April 1980 the Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.
By the period of the Russian reforms of 90th the Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute was one of the leading higher schools in the Kuban region and in Russia. In November 1993 the school has got the status of a university and was renamed to the Kuban State University of Technology (KubSUT).
Nowadays the KubSUT employs over 1200 lecturers, the admission is over 16 thousand undergraduate students and about 800 postgraduates. The University incorporates 12 faculties, 81 departments, the Institute of modern technologies and economics, branches in Novorossijsk, Armavir and Tuapse, Technical University, comprising the classical and open lyceums, computer and linguistic colleges, Business Center.
The University has developed a system of continuous multy-stage training intended to offer education from general secondary level up to the highest scientific degree.
The University possesses good material-and-technical facilities. Classes are held in 11 buildings. At the area of 131 thousand sq.m. there are functioning 81 Departments, 115 lecture-rooms, 381 specialized laboratories and workshops, 60 computer classes. Special subjects are studied at 58 Department branches established at industrial enterprises of the Krasnodar-city and Territory.
In three buildings for studies there are developed local computer networks used for teaching students, about 150 workstations have access to Internet. Total number of PC installed at KubSUT is over 1500.
The University library has a rich stock of scientific, teaching and fiction literature – both domestic and international, over 1 million of volumes in number. The readers can work with literature in 9 reading halls and get books they need at 5 library departments. There is a local network and access to Internet at the library, users can find information about literature in the electronic catalogue. The University has a unique library in the subjects of primary interest, including scientific books and textbooks, written by our scientists, proceedings of the KubSUT, dissertations defended at the University, rare and foreign journals and books.
The KubSUT has successfully passed the state attestation and accreditation. According to the license the KubSUT has the right to train specialists in 66 specialities, on 20 Bachelor Degree programs and one Master Degree program, to prepare postgraduate students for the PhD in 51 fields of science and for Doctor’s degree in 9 fields of science. The University offers also programs of pre-university training and optional programs.
Since 1985 the Chancellor of the University is the Rector, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Anatoly A.PETRIK.
