KTRE is the call sign of a television station in Lufkin, Texas, USA. It is an ABC network affiliate on VHF channel 9.

[edit] History

KTRE went on the air on August 31, 1955, as a satellite station of Houston NBC affiliate KPRC. Due to the lack of signals reaching Lufkin, KTRE sometimes aired a mix of network shows in the early years. In 1964 the Buford family bought the station and it became a satellite of KLTV, which is Tyler's ABC affiliate, but also aired programs from CBS and NBC. But the mid 1980s, both stations were primarily ABC stations. KTRE has changed ownership several times but has always been a satellite to KLTV.

KTRE's first news anchorman was Murphy Martin, who later became a local television newsman in Dallas and anchorman for ABC News.

It is owned by Raycom Media and is a sister station to Tyler's KLTV. When it was purchased by Liberty Corporation, KLTV started producing a morning and midday program to air on both stations. KTRE maintains a full news department with 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts.

KTRE is not seen on satellite, but is still trying to get on Dish Network and DirecTV. KTRE's sisterstation, KLTV, is broadcasted on satellite.

KTRE airs programs in HDTV on digital channel 21.

KTRE can be seen on Cox Cable channel 9 in Lufkin.
