KSHU-FM, also known as 90.5 The Kat, is a college radio station owned and operated by Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX and operates at 90.5 FM with an overnight simulcast on Cox Cable Communications Channel 7 in Huntsville. Its formats consist of jazz, classic rock, hip hop, and college rock. The Kat also broadcasts various Sam Houston State athletic events, including all home football, basketball, and baseball games (and select away games), as well as sports and community programming. Current programs include Sports Magazine, and past shows include Kat Sports Live, Thursday Edition, and The Baron's Drive Thru. Since 2005, The Kat has held a twelve hour live broadcast in support of the Walker County Relay for Life.

The station is not affiliated with any radio network, and is managed and operated by the students of Radio-Television Department. Students perform DJ duties during various dayparts seven days a week and write and produce newscasts and sportscasts seven Monday through Friday.

The station signed on October 8, 1973 and operated out of various facilities on the SHSU campus including the Peabody Memorial Library. In 1985, KSHU moved to the first floor of the Dan Rather Communications Building.

Notable alumni include "Handsome" Mike Coffin, Brian "The Sex Machine" Hernalsteen, Brittany Lauren, DJ Wolfeman, Ritz the Golden Cracker, and Baron von Crunk. Former faculty advisors include Amy Cooper and Tony DeMars.

KSHU also refers to the student-run cable TV station viewable in Huntsville on SuddenLink Cable channel 7. Daytime programming consists of Annenberg/CPB Educational television, and evening programming is entirely student produced. Notable programs include News 7 Live at Six, Troubodor, WRPS The Series, Marked, Labbies, The Way Too Late Show, and Bearkat Sports Report.

Famous TV alumni are Adam Clanton, John Tarrent, Chris Spence, Stanley Barr, Dan Rather, Keith Tomshe, Jeff McShan, Dave Strickland, and Bill Moffet. Future famous alumni will be Scott Packard, Patric Sleightholm, Michael Oder, Kristina Adams, Lila Hollin, and the Twins.
