From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Krya Vrysi (Greek: Κρύα Βρύση ) is the name of a town in Pella (Macedonia) Prefecture of Greece. It is 75 km from Thessaloniki.

[edit] Short History

The town of Krya Vrysi was founded in the 1930s when the settlements of Plasna and Prisna were joined. After the lake that covered the place was drained, the people had trouble finding drinkable water. When they found a source of cold, clear water, they called it "water from the Krya Vrysi (Cold Spring)", thus giving the town its name.

It was declared a Municipality in 1990 and, according to the 2001 census, Krya Vrysi had 10,977 inhabitants. The economy in the area is primarily based on agriculture; The farmers grow peaches, asparagus and corn. They were also growing a great amount of Berley tobbaco, until 2005 when the production was stopped in the region due to European Union's economical issues.

[edit] Carnival

The Krya Vrysi carnival, which takes place each February, started in 1988 and has become an important tourist attraction for the town. It occurs on the three-day holiday of Shrove Monday.
