Krokos is a little town of 3,000 habitants, only 5 km south of the city of Kozani. It is the seat of the municipality of Elimeia, which is expected to join the municipality of Kozani until the end of 2006.

Krokos is known in Greece and in other places for the production of the Greek Macedonian Saffron, which is one of the world's most intense and valuable variety. Saffron is used in cooking as a spice. The name Krokos comes from the flower Saffron = crocos in Greek and other languages.
