Kristin School in New Zealand is an independent, international, non-residential school. It is co-educational and an IB school of about 1670 students.
Years K-13 (Kindergarten to Year 13), on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. Located on a 20-hectare site within the growing northern fringe of Auckland, the school is set in park-like grounds.
Established in 1973 by a small group of parents, the school practices in the wider Christian tradition, although it claims to be "non-denominational". Christian beliefs, however, are not a prerequisite for entry, and many students do not identify with the traditional approach upheld by the school.
Rather, the defining social cleavage present in the school are the "middle-class" practices of its students, parents, and most employees. This middle-class orientation is produced through the gatekeeping processes of interviews and fee levels - senior school parents are charged over NZ$10,000 per year. Given that most NZ families have incomes of less than NZ$50,000 a year, this is indeed a very high upfront barrier to entry. The income that these fees have generated though have allowed the school to acquire a conspicuous assemblage of physical infrastructure. These high fees set the school for middle class families and above. Other schools in Auckland with similar fees are King's College, Diocesan, St. Cuthbert's College and Saint Kentigern College.
While Kristin as a school has an excellent comparative record in its achievement rates in external examinations, its students and culture are generally socially insulated. Reflecting its locational setting, and demography of the surrounding area, the majority of students are New Zealand Europeans, with East Asians making up most of the remainder of the school community.
The school is owned by the Kristin School Charitable Trust and is governed by trustees and governors appointed from both the school and the wider community.
Set up in three separate schools - Junior (years 0-6), Middle (years 7-10), and Senior (years 11-13). Each has its own principal with an executive principal with overall responsibiltiy to the Board of Governors.

[edit] History
At the end of 1972, St Anne's, a private school in Takapuna on Auckland's North Shore, was forced to close. Concerned parents held meetings and decided to start a new school, which opened in February 1973, using the leased Methodist Health Camp at Campbells Bay. The initial roll was 42 children with a staff of five. Fees were $100 per term. Immediately a search was carried out to find a permanent home for the future. The School grew rapidly, and soon a suitable site was found at Albany, where Kristin opened in 1978 with a roll of 235.
