Kreis Wirsitz was a Kreis in Prussia (county) in the northern administrative district of Bromberg, in the Prussian province of Posen.
[edit] History
"This area came under Prussian control in 1772 with the first partition of Poland. From that time on many new colonies containing mainly German settlers were established. Many we located along the Netze River as the marshland was drained and made arable. However, there were many German families in the area before the partition, from as far back as the mid-1600s. The records for both, if "Evangelische", generally begin in 1773. Two main towns to search are Lobsens and Wirsitz as people from the surrounding area used the central churches to register births (baptisms), marriages, and deaths."
