Kreis Lissa was one of several Kreise (counties) in the southern administrative district of Posen, in the Prussian province of Posen.

Kreis Lissa was part of the military command in Posen (German: Bezirkskommando) at Glogau, Silesia.

The main court (German: Landgericht) was in Lissa, with a lower court (German: Amtsgericht) in Lissa.

"Standesamt" is the German name of the local civil registration offices which were established in October of 1874 soon after the German Empire was formed. Births, marriages and deaths were recorded.
