[edit] Hello.
I am a German from Westfalia, but I have Silesian and Pomeranian roots. After finishing my studies of Indology, Linguistics und Journalism in the beautiful town of Göttingen, I came to Cologne in 2002 to learn Tamil. I love living in the big-city atmosphere of provincial Cologne with its friendly people and its Kölsch, the Cologne Carnival and Kölsch. For a while I've been trying to put together a dissertation, a process that will hopefully come to a successful end later this year.
My main area of interest is the South Indian region, particularly Sri Lanka, where I have spent many months in the last 15 years. I'm especially fond of Sinhala, my knowledge of and fluency in which I've been trying to improve for a long time. In this task the music of The Gypsies helps me a lot; their interpretations of Sri Lankan Baila are my favourite music.
[edit] Serious Political Concerns (USA)
Since user boxes concerning serious sociological and political matters are really hard to come by, I'd like to state here that--although I have several close friends in the USA and my favourite TV shows are American--I detest that country's policies of
- using war as a means of "conflict solution" while actually expanding the sphere of influence
- proclaiming to defend democracy abroad without adhering to democratic rules at home
- putting economy above ecology, culture and human rights
- restricting freedom of information whenever it is in the own interest
- blaming the poor for their own fate.
(see for example [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7])
