Krautschädl is an Austrian musicgroup from Wels (Upper Austria). The group plays a mix of Rock, Funk, Ska and also draws a few influences from Metal. The vocals are sung in Upper Austrian dialect.

The name of the band originates partially from the expression "Krauts", which was first used by American soldiers to refer to the German forces in WW2 and later in general as an derogatory term for all Germans. Also, "Krautschädl" (~"cabbage head") is sometimes used as an insult in Austria.

Despite their name, they cannot be considered Krautrock by definition.

[edit] Background

In spring 2004 Krautschädl began playing concerts. One year later they released their first demo tape with 3 tracks -s'Gösserl, Zeit zum Denga ("Time to Think") and Sandlerstah- and started recording tracks for their album. They finally signed in with Sony BMG and re-recorded these tracks in 2005. In March 2006 their first eponymous LP was released and subsequently the single Zeit zum Denga was played on the Austrian TV-channel "GoTV".
