KPLV-FM, "93.1 The Party", is an Adult Rhythmic Top 40 station out of Las Vegas, Nevada owned by Clear Channel Communications.

[edit] History

KUDO came on the air at 93.1 in 1980 and was an Adult Contemporary format. From 1984-1986 they shifted in a Hot AC and were known as "Music 93". KUDO lasted for five years until 1985. KUDO eventually became KEYV 93.1 FM The Key.

They played new age music until about 1992. In Feb. 1992, The Key changed it's format to adult album alternative or "AAA" - keeping "The Key 93.1" as its moniker. Before KXPT 97.1 signed on in 1993 with "Triple A", KEYV played artists as diverse as The Cowboy Junkies and Michelle Shocked. This eclectic format was on the air for about 10 months, when "Y93" (Young Country) signed on in late 1992 and was one of three country radio stations heard in the Las Vegas area.

"Y93" (Young Country), Country Y93 "The Hit Kicker" lasted from 1992-1996 and then became Big Oldies 93.1 before finally switching to Kool 93.1 FM in 1998. They had been oldies since 1997, first as "Big Oldies" KBGO and then "Kool 93.1" KQOL in 1999.

But that all changed on August 30, 2006, when KQOL flipped to a dance-friendly rhythmic contemporary direction as KPLV-FM "93.1 The Party." The station's playlist consists of a mix of current and upbeat rhythmic pop/R&B/dance and classic disco product from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and today, tailored for a 25-49 audience (mostly female). The station has also picked up Whoopi Goldberg's syndicated morning show "Wake Up With Whoopi" from WKTU-FM in New York, NY.

As a result, Las Vegas, for the first time since the 1980s, no longer has an oldies radio station.
