Koyambedu is a vibrant area in the South Indian city of Chennai. It boasts one of Asia's largest mofussil bus terminus called as "Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus" and also houses one of Asia's largest perishable goods market complex called "Koyambedu Market". It also boasts of Tamil nadu's tallest structure, the residential apartment Majestic Towers(15 floors). The Koyambedu area has become a major hub of activity in Chennai City after the inauguration of the market and the bus terminus. The area is active for 24 hours in a day owing to movement of people and goods through the day.

Koyambedu is connected to both the Central Railway Station and the Chennai International Airport through highways. Poonamallee High Road, a four lane highway, connects Koyambedu to Chennai Central Railway Station while Jawaharlal Nehru Road connects Koyambedu to Chennai Airport. Recently, property prices have shot up in and around the areas of Koyambedu. Koyambedu is surrounded by localities like MMDA, Vadapalani, Anna nagar, Arumbakkam, Aminjikarai and Virugambakkam.

The South Asian Federation (SAF) Games Village at Koyambedu, a 'source of envy' to the rest of the city is a large residential complex with 760 flats. Of these, some flats come under the Government-rental scheme and the others belong to individuals and institutions including the Indian Oil, the Reserve Bank of India, the Punjab National Bank, Annapurna, Food corporation of India, Canara Bank and the SBI. Around 50-60 officers belonging to IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service are residing here. The dwelling units coming under the control of the organisations such as the Indian Oil, Annapurna and the RBI present a smart picture.

Also there exists since 1996 a complex of flats called as 'RAILNAGAR' taking off poonamallee high road near Ramakrishna weigh bridge[also Daniel Thomas Higher Secondary School]. In this complex there are 26 blocks each comprising 4 floors of 4 flats each. The blocks carry the alphabets 'A' to 'Z' as identifications.There is a park & Community Hall in the complex along with a grocery shop & also one temple for 'Vetri Vinayagar'.The unique feature of this complex is that this has come up on the banks of a sullage water stream called as 'COOVAM'which also drains out the flood waters of 'CHEMBARABAKKAM'tank.In the course of such situations the only accessibility being a causeway, the residents get isolated from the city & also they remain in the deluge helpleess in view of the reclaimed low-land in knee-deep sewerage for weeks together.
