KOY

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

KOY radio, broadcasting at 1230 AM in Phoenix, is the oldest radio station in the state of Arizona. They are owned and operated by Clear Channel Communications.

[edit] History

Originally broadcasting on 550 AM, the signal was switched to 1230 AM when News/Talk station KFYI took over the 550 signal.

KOY's format is "Adult Standards" with a play list including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Barbra Streisand and more. Morning show host Danny Davis is a fixture on KOY and is well loved by the station’s listeners.

KOY now resides on the frequency that was a popular music station during the 1960s and 1970s. During those years, 1230 was KRIZ, an extremely successful AM top 40 station with studios and transmitter on Buckeye Road, in the western part of Phoenix.

For many years, KOY was the Valley’s top station. KOY still maintains a loyal audience and is regularly at the top of the Adults 55+ ratings and often in the top 10 in the Adults 35+ demographic.
