[edit] Biography

[edit] Beggining

Korzus is one of the oldest bands of the brazilian thrash metal, side to side with Sepultura. But diferent of Sepultura, they are not from Belo Horizonte city, but from São Paulo city and their first release was in the seminal metal compilation called SP Metal on Baratos Afins label in 1985.

They changed the line up a lot of times since the born of the band, but three members, Marcelo Pompeu (on vocals), Silvio Golfetti (on guitars) and Dick (on bass guitar). The classic line up of the band (1988 - 1992) was, Marcelo Pompeu (vocals), Silvio Golfetti (guitars), Marcelo Nicastro (guitars), Dick (bass) and Beto Silesci (drums).

The interisting is that the debut album of Korzus was a live album in 1986 but soon in 1987 they released their first studio album called Sonho Maníaco, a very rought thrash metal, in the vein of Dark Angel's Darkness Descends and Slayer's Reign In Blood style.

Around this time, Silvio Golfetti played guitars for the L.A. speed metal band Agent Steel for a short time in 1987, because he was friend of John Cyriis, vocalist of Agent Steel and borned in Brazil. He used to play at this time guitars of Sepultura when Max Cavalera was unable to play.

In 1989, they changed a little their sound, going to a more Bay Area thrash direction, and released the EP Pay For Your Lies, that become a classic in south american metal.

After two years, came what most people call the best Korzus album, Mass Illusion. With the production of Roger Moreira (a vocalist of one of the most know pop-rock bands on Brazil called Ultraje A Rigor), the band started to be more notable out of Brazil. A video clipe for the song Agony was made, and it receive heavy air play on Furia MTV ( a brazilian version of MTV's Headbangers Ball).

The things were going well, but the drummer Beto Silesci and the guitarrist Marcelo Nicastro left the band, each other with their own projects (Beto Silesce formed a band with his wife and tried a place of drummer in the hardcore band Ratos De Porão; Nicastro became a well know player of cavaquinho - an instrument to play Samba, the most popular style of music in Brazil).

[edit] After

After the depart of Beto Silesci and Marcelo Nicastro, the band started to try an audience out of Brazil, due to the success of Sepultura.

They recruted a guitarrist called Soldado and a drummer called Fernando Schaffer and recorded in 1994 the album KZS. The band was fitting musicaly with the 90's NYHC of bands such as Madball and Sick Of It All. On tour, they played togeter in the States with Biohazard and S.O.D..

After two years, Soldado and Fernando Schaffer left the band, (Fernando Schaffer became drummer for several bands in Brazil) and in their places entered the guitarrist Heros Trench and the drummer Rodrigo.

This line up, is still together and since they recorded in 1998 a live record at the brazilian Monsters of Rock festival and after some years without record any album, they released the album Ties Of Blood in 2004.
