In the computer game Starcraft, Korhal IV was an important Terran Confederacy core world, considered the jewel of the Confederacy. Unfortunately, the colonists were not treated better there than people were treated in the other colonies. Korhal was devastated by a massive Confederate nuclear barrage, after uprisings in the population.

[edit] History

From Korhal, Senator Angus Mengsk led a rebellion against the Confederates there, as a result of Confederate corruption, which was successful enough to drive the Confederates from the planet. Three agents known as Ghosts killed him and most of his family in the capital city, Styrling, but still the Korhalians rebelled.

Arcturus Mengsk, Angus's son, returned to his home of Korhal and continued the rebellion. When he was gone to visit Umoja, an important rival of the Terran Confederacy, the Confederates fired 1000 Apocalypse-class nuclear missiles at the planet, wiping out nearly all life on the surface. Estimates of the human death toll range from four million to over 53 million.

Aurora Station, a place where strange experiments on plants were conducted, was ejected from planetary orbit during the attack. The station is believed to float intact to this day.

The little life that was left suffered from mutations (most spectacularly the Scantids) and the planet became a harsh desert. Arcturus Mengsk returned there after defeating the Terran Confederacy at Tarsonis, repopulating the planet and making it the Terran Dominion throne world, with the new capital at Augustgrad. He and his right-hand man, General Edmund Duke, set about creating a powerful defensive barrier over the planet.

Korhal was safe until the United Earth Directorate arrived in the Koprulu Sector. The UED discovered, to their dismay, that since Korhal had already suffered nuclear devastation, its people weren't afraid to add to this destruction by detonating their own nuclear devices on the planet in order to kill UED troops and destroy UED structures.

Furthermore, the Terran Dominion has rushed to create a powerful plasma cannon at a mesa on Korhal, where bioweapons testing facility was located, under the brilliant scientist Ozmel Dodds. Unfortunately, he set the cannon to overload when it fired and fled as he attempted to curry favor with the UED. His current fate is unknown.

The UED triumphed there, and it took a task force consisting of Sarah Kerrigan's Zerg, Jim Raynor, Fenix, General Edmund Duke, and Arcturus Mengsk to retake the world for the Dominion.
