Koppites

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

‘’’Kopites’’’ are supporters of Liverpool F.C. who once stood, and now sit, on the Kop at Anfield.

The name Kop is taken from the Spion Kop a South African mountain and the scene of a battle in the Second Boer War where a majority of the Liverpool Regiment had died.

They are renowned throughout the footballing world as knowledgeable supporters who have a wry sense of humour. It was said in the 1960’s and 70’s that the Kop was worth a goal start as they could suck the ball into the net. During the 60’s a B.B.C television crew filmed an episode of Panorama at Anfield to discuss what makes the average man act in unison with thousands of others to form a football crowd.
