KOM Crown is an acronym which stands for King Of the Mountains Crown. It is awarded to the bicycle racer who collects the most points in "Mountain Stages" at key locations along a mountain stage's route. These locations are sought out by aspiring Kings of the Mountians as they try to pass them first, even though they may not win the overall stage. Consequently, the rider with the most points collected at these key spots along mountain stage routes is the King Of the Mountains.
