Koichi Domoto

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Koichi Domoto (堂本光一 Dōmoto Kōichi?, born January 1, 1979 in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan) is a famous performing artist in Japan. He joined Johnny & Associates, a talent agency well-known for producing famous boy-band music groups such as SMAP, TOKIO and SHOUNENTAI, at the age of 12, after his sister who were big fan of Noriyuki Higashiyama (member of SHOUNENTAI sent his profile to Johnny's Agency.

He, together with Tsuyoshi Domoto (堂本剛 Dōmoto Tsuyoshi?) formed the group temporarily called Kanzai Boya in 1993, and debuted officially as KinKi Kids (all three K should be capitalized) in 1997 with their best-selling single Garasu no Shonen (硝子の少年), or The Glass Boy. Though the two of them share a last name, they are not related. Another coincidence is that both of them come from an area in Japan called Kinki, the true inspiration for the name despite the double meaning to the English ear.

Koichi is nicknamed the 'Prince' by his fans, due to his perceived gentle nature and natural elegance.

He is especially well-known now in Japan having performed for three consecutive years in the musical, SHOCK.

Koichi held his first solo tour from March to May 2004.

His bloodtype is B. He loves cats, but claims that he cannot keep one because of allergies.

Koichi's other hobbies include cars, horseback riding and dance. It has been said that he is one of the best dancers from Johnny's Agency, which causes him to aspire to do more musicals in the future.
