Kodambakkam

Kodambakkam is a highly developed area of Chennai, South India, and the term Kollywood is derived from the name of this area. Traditionally, the Kodambakkam locality is synonymous with the tamil film industry and known for its movie production houses and the film stars residing in this locality. There are also many production studios in the vicinity of Kodambakkam notable of which is AVM studio.

Kodambakkam is also the natural home for many film aspirants who try their luck in India's Second largest entertainment industry, Mumbai (Bombay) being the largest. The Kodambakkam based film industry is called Kollywood. Apart from this, Kodambakkam is also the official residence of many film directors and producers. The studios in Kodambakkam are equipped with the latest technology.

It has created renowned film directors like Mani Ratnam, S. Shankar.

Kodambakkam borders with Choolaimedu, T.Nagar, Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar and West Mambalam. It has got one of the busiest suburban railway stations in the city. Sekar Emporium, Meenakshi College,Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College and Liberty Theatre are famous land marks situated in and around the famous "Arcot Road" in Kodambakkam.
