The Kobayashi Alternative was the last test given in the Star Trek fictional universe to Starfleet cadets before they received their first commission from Starfleet command. It was a graduation test.

The only student to ever win the "Kobayashi Alternative" test was a cadet by the name of James Tiberius Kirk.

His unique solution somehow involved having his engineer rig the computer.
