Kobayashi (小林市; -shi) is a city located in Miyazaki, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 39,628 and the density of 171.73 persons per km². The total area is 230.76 km². The city is suffering from low population dropage like the city Miyakonojo.

The city was founded on April 1, 1950.
