[edit] History
Knoxville Catholic was founded in 1932 and is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Knoxville. In 2000, the school opened a new campus and moved from downtown to west Knoxville on Cedar Bluff Road in conjunction with the new home of All Saints parish.
[edit] Vision and Philosophy
The school's Vision is to be a cornerstone of Catholic school education, inspiring young people through the ministry of Christ.
Knoxville Catholic High School, in partnership with parents and supporting parishes, is dedicated to teaching the Gospel, igniting a love for learning, and nurturing individual growth in body, mind, and spirit, as students are prepared to be Disciples of Christ who influence a constantly changing world.
[edit] Student life
As a Catholic school, the school's goal is to provide a quality, Catholic education. However, nearly a third of Knoxville Catholic students are non-Catholic. Its students come primarily from the Knoxville Metropolitan area, but many students commute from Loudon County, Sevier County, Campbell County, or even as far as Washington County, as evidenced by the Merriman children from 1997-2001.
[edit] Academics
Knoxville Catholic High School offers over 100 courses in both core subjects as well as a wide range of elective subjects.
[edit] Sports
Knoxville Catholic is the home of the Fighting Irish. The school colors are green and gold.
In 2003, the Irish had an undefeated regular season in football. However, the team lost in the State Championship to Battle Ground Academy, a team they had previously beaten by 10, by a score of 24-19. The Irish also had undefeated regular seasons in 2004 and 2006. Both years they had close losses in the quarterfinals of the play-offs to teams they had beaten easily in the regular season. They have had four Mr. Football winners: Rob Demastus in 1999, Jeremy Bentley in 2003, Nick McFadden in 2004, and Harrison Smith in 2006. [1] Knoxville Catholic has an extensive rivalry with Webb School of Knoxville and Notre Dame High School.
In 2005, Catholic had the Class A/AA runner-up teams in both boys' and girls' soccer. The boys have made six consecutive state tournament appearances, from 2001 to 2006.
The basketball team has been to state three consecutive years, 2003 - 2005. They were the Region Champions in 2003, the Region runner-up in 2004 and 2005, and the District regular season and tournament champions in 2005. They were state runner-ups in 1974 and 1976.
Knoxville Catholic has won five state championships. [2]
