Knjaževac (Књажевац) is a town and municipality located in the Timok region of south-east Serbia. Its ancient Roman name was Timacum Majus, and much later it was named Gurgusovac. Near Knjazevac (about 7 km on south) you can find an pictoral and very interesting village - Zlne (homeplace of serbian faomous anglers Mirko Stankovic and Rade Stojkovic and greatest dear hunter of eastern Serbia - Boban Bogdanovic).

In 2002, the population of the town was 19,351, while population of the municipality was 37,172. The population of the municipality include 35,977 (96.79%) Serbs, 452 (1.22%) Roma, etc.
